I usually follow a reading plan in the mornings while sipping coffee. I’ve used many plans over the years, currently I am using a “One Year Bible” to help keep me on track. But some days I get side tracked. Well, lots of days I get side tracked and not always for the right reasons. *sigh*
This morning I got side tracked when instead of reading, I started my devotions by journaling a short Thank You note to the Lord. And while writing, a Scripture came to mind. I quickly Googled the portion I remembered and tada – up pops the verse and reference.
“People of Zion, who live in Jerusalem, you will weep no more. How gracious he will be when you cry for help! As soon as he hears, he will answer you. Although the Lord gives you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, your teachers will be hidden no more; with your own eyes you will see them. Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.” (NIV)ISAIAH 30:19-21 (NIV)
Since I enjoy reading Scripture in my printed Bible vs electronically, I grabbed my Study Bible to look it up, and immediately above that passage was another Scripture highlighted in yellow.
“Yet the Lord longs to be gracious to you; therefore he will rise up to show you compassion. For the LORD is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for him.”ISAIAH 30:18 (NIV)
By now I was smiling because I can’t read that verse without thinking of Joyce Meyer describing the Lord as “rising Himself up” in a chair so as to better see the ones who are waiting for His help. And next to that passage, I had written another Scripture reference in the side margins. I knew what it was before I turned to it.
“For the eyes of the LORD roam to and fro over all the earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose hearts are fully devoted to Him.”2 CHRONICALS 16:9 (BSB)
Now I’m really smiling at the remembrance of Joyce Meyer waiving her hands in the air above her head calling out to the Lord “Here I am, here I am Lord … you can bless me!” 🙂
Friend, if you are breathing I’m pretty sure you have something going on in your life. And whatever is going on in your life – I hope it gives you comfort (as it does me) to know that the LORD Himself has promised to walk with you through it, instruct you through it, bless you through it, and protect you through it.
Yes my friend, if you seek the Lord, listen to and respond to His leading, and put your trust in Him … you will get through it! This is the confidence we have as believers; those who have been purchased by the blood of Jesus and adopted as sons and daughters of the Living God.
But what if you don’t yet have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ? Well today is a perfect day to make that choice. Click here to learn how to accept the free gift of God, so that all these promises can be yours too!
